HVAC / Mechanical Building Services Engineer – Technical Submissions

Location: Castlebar, County Mayo – Hybrid Option

Reports to: Pre-Construction Manager

The Role

Our client is seeking an experienced HVAC / Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join its pre-construction team in Castlebar.

The position will suit a Mechanical or Building Services Engineer with experience in HVAC, ductwork, mechanical services or specialist construction contracting who would like to develop their career in technical submissions, procurement coordination and pre-construction delivery.

The successful candidate will review mechanical design information and convert drawings, specifications and BIM models into accurate equipment and ductwork technical submissions suitable for procurement and client approval.

This is a full-time position based in Castlebar, with a hybrid working option available for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review project budgets and tender information with the Estimating team.
  • Review procurement schedules and purchasing requirements with the Procurement team.
  • Assess mechanical drawings, specifications, schedules and BIM models.
  • Identify missing or conflicting design information and issue RFIs to clients and consultants.
  • Attend client, design and technical coordination meetings.
  • Develop equipment and ductwork technical submissions for client and supplier review.
  • Coordinate technical information with equipment manufacturers and external vendors.
  • Issue final technical submissions for client approval.
  • Track submissions, comments, approvals and outstanding actions.
  • Maintain accurate RFI logs, document registers and revision records.
  • Ensure approved technical submissions are handed over clearly to the Procurement team.
  • Liaise with the Engineering and Installation teams throughout the design and construction stages.
  • Assist site teams in resolving equipment, ductwork and mechanical-services design issues.
  • Ensure technical information meets project specifications, construction requirements and applicable industry standards.
  • Support multiple projects while meeting agreed technical and procurement deadlines.

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Approximately five years’ experience in HVAC, mechanical building services, ductwork design or mechanical contracting.
  • Previous experience working on construction projects in Ireland is essential.
  • Experience with an HVAC contractor, mechanical-services contractor, ductwork subcontractor or specialist construction company.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, schedules and BIM models.
  • Experience converting design information into procurement-quality equipment schedules or technical submissions.
  • Good understanding of HVAC systems, ductwork and construction sequencing.
  • Experience preparing technical submittals, RFIs or equipment approval documentation.
  • Knowledge of DW144 and SMACNA standards would be highly advantageous.
  • Exposure to BIM coordination and model-based project delivery.
  • Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and document-control skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with clients, consultants, suppliers and internal project teams.
  • Capable of managing several projects and priorities simultaneously.

  • Large-scale HVAC or mechanical-services installations
