Optical Dispensing and Sales Advisor – Castlebar & Ballinrobe

Locations: Castlebar and Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo
Salary: €27,000–€35,000 per year, depending on experience
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Working Pattern: Tuesday to Saturday

The Role

Our client, a busy independent optician practice in County Mayo, is seeking an experienced and customer-focused Optical Dispensing and Sales Advisor.

The successful candidate will work between the Castlebar and Ballinrobe practices, supporting customers throughout their visit and assisting with optical dispensing, sales, reception and general clinic duties.

Previous optical experience is preferred. However, candidates with strong retail, healthcare, reception or customer-service experience will also be considered for the full-time position.

A full, clean driving licence is required, as the role involves working across both practice locations.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver excellent patient care and customer service.
• Assist customers with selecting suitable frames and lenses.
• Provide clear information on available optical products and options.
• Support frame and lens dispensing.
• Complete pre-testing and provide general clinic support.
• Manage customer appointments and maintain accurate records.
• Welcome customers and complete reception duties.
• Answer telephone calls and respond to customer enquiries.
• Process payments and complete general till duties.
• Contact customers regarding collections and follow-up appointments.
• Maintain attractive and organised frame displays.
• Support the optometrist and wider practice team.
• Assist with the general day-to-day running of both practices.

Candidate Requirements

• Previous experience in an optical practice is preferred.
• Strong retail or customer-facing experience will also be considered.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Professional, friendly and patient-focused approach.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Confidence assisting customers with sales and product selection.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Reliable and comfortable working across two locations.
• Full, clean driving licence.

Working Hours

The normal working pattern is Tuesday to Saturday, with the successful candidate working between the Castlebar and Ballinrobe practices.

Full-time employment is preferred. Part-time applications will only be considered from candidates who already have previous optical-practice experience.
