R&D Project Engineer – Mayo

Reports to: Lead Mechanical Engineer / R&D Manager
Arcon Recruitment is recruiting an R&D Project Engineer for an established engineering and manufacturing company in County Mayo.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer or Design Engineer who would like to develop a career in research, development and product innovation.
The successful candidate will manage engineering research and development projects from initial concept through design, testing, evaluation and implementation. They will work closely with the R&D Manager and wider engineering team to develop new products, improve existing designs and introduce more efficient working methods.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage assigned research and development projects.
- Attend weekly meetings and present updates on the progress of R&D projects.
- Develop, document and continuously improve internal R&D processes.
- Prepare, update and manage project Gantt charts.
- Work with the R&D Manager to prioritise projects and establish delivery targets.
- Monitor project milestones, timelines and deliverables.
- Conduct technical research to identify emerging technologies, materials and manufacturing methods.
- Support the development and evaluation of new products.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing products and engineering processes.
- Create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
- Use Revit and BIM tools to support design development and project coordination.
- Apply CAD automation tools such as DriveWorks to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Investigate technical problems and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Prepare technical reports, product documentation and instructional guides.
- Develop and monitor performance indicators for the R&D department.
- Maintain accurate project records and development documentation.
- Collaborate with design, production, quality and project-delivery teams.
- Promote creativity, innovation and continuous improvement throughout the development process.
- Explore the use of AI-assisted tools and new technologies within engineering and product-development activities.
Candidate Requirements
- Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
- Experience in mechanical design, product development, manufacturing or building-services engineering would be advantageous.
- Advanced SolidWorks skills.
- Proficiency in Revit and BIM coordination.
- Experience using CAD automation software such as DriveWorks would be beneficial.
- Understanding of engineering product development and evaluation.
- Strong technical research and report-writing abilities.
- Ability to create clear technical instructions and user guides.
- Excellent creative-thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organisational and project-management abilities.
- Ability to plan work, establish priorities and meet project deadlines.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Proactive, innovative and willing to introduce new ideas.
- Interest in using AI and emerging technologies to improve engineering efficiency and accuracy.
- Fluent English for professional and business purposes.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Ireland and the European Union.
