Building Services Engineer – HVAC Technical Submissions

An established mechanical construction company is seeking an experienced Building Services Engineer to coordinate HVAC equipment and ductwork technical submissions across a range of construction projects.

The successful candidate will review mechanical designs, prepare procurement-quality equipment schedules and manage technical submissions through the client approval process.

Hybrid and remote working options may be considered. All applicants must have direct experience within the Irish construction industry and a strong understanding of Irish construction documentation and project procedures.

The Role

Working with the pre-construction, estimating, procurement, engineering and installation teams, you will ensure that mechanical equipment and ductwork submissions are technically accurate, fully coordinated and approved in line with project programmes.

Main Duties

  • Review mechanical drawings, specifications, equipment schedules and BIM information.
  • Develop design information into detailed, procurement-ready schedules.
  • Prepare HVAC equipment and ductwork technical submittals.
  • Review project budgets and procurement requirements.
  • Coordinate technical information with suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Submit documentation to clients and consultants for review.
  • Respond to technical comments and manage submission revisions.
  • Raise RFIs where drawings or specifications require clarification.
  • Monitor outstanding RFIs and maintain accurate RFI registers.
  • Track submissions from initial preparation through to final approval.
  • Maintain document control, revision histories and approval records.
  • Attend design, procurement and client coordination meetings.
  • Transfer approved technical documentation to the procurement team.
  • Assist site and installation teams with mechanical design queries.
  • Ensure technical documents comply with contract specifications and relevant industry standards.

Candidate Requirements

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in mechanical building services, HVAC or ductwork contracting.
  • Previous experience working on construction projects in Ireland is essential.
  • Experience preparing technical submittals, equipment schedules or procurement documentation.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical services design and construction sequencing.
  • Experience working with HVAC contractors, mechanical contractors or specialist ductwork subcontractors.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and BIM models.
  • Strong coordination, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent document-management and attention-to-detail capabilities.
  • Ability to handle several projects and competing deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence dealing with clients, consultants and suppliers.

Qualifications and Technical Knowledge

  • Qualification in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of DW144 and SMACNA ductwork standards is desirable.
  • Experience on data centre, life sciences, pharmaceutical or semiconductor projects would be beneficial.

Hybrid or Remote Working

A flexible arrangement may be available, including hybrid or remote working from within Ireland.

The successful candidate must be available to attend meetings at the County Mayo office, construction sites and client locations when required.
