Mechanical Engineer – HVAC Procurement and Submittals

Our client requires an experienced Mechanical Engineer – HVAC Procurement and Submittals to support the technical coordination and procurement of mechanical equipment and ductwork packages.

This role would suit a mechanical engineer who has worked for an Irish mechanical contractor, HVAC contractor or specialist subcontractor and understands the technical-submission process from design review through to procurement and installation.

The employer may consider a hybrid or remote arrangement. Previous Irish construction experience is an essential requirement for all applicants.

Responsibilities

  • Review mechanical project specifications, drawings, schedules and BIM models.
  • Assess equipment requirements against the project budget and procurement plan.
  • Prepare detailed equipment, ductwork and material technical submissions.
  • Develop accurate procurement schedules from design documents and models.
  • Liaise with suppliers to obtain technical data, certification and product information.
  • Check supplier proposals against project specifications.
  • Coordinate draft technical submissions with clients and consultants.
  • Manage technical queries, comments, amendments and final approvals.
  • Issue RFIs regarding incomplete or conflicting design information.
  • Maintain RFI, submittal and approval trackers.
  • Ensure document revisions are accurately recorded and controlled.
  • Coordinate approved equipment information with procurement personnel.
  • Support the purchasing team during supplier selection and order placement.
  • Attend project coordination and technical review meetings.
  • Assist project and installation teams with equipment queries during construction.
  • Monitor submission deadlines to ensure procurement and installation programmes remain on schedule.
  • Coordinate with estimating, design, procurement and site personnel throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential Experience

  • At least five years’ experience in mechanical engineering, building services, HVAC or ductwork contracting.
  • Proven experience on construction projects in Ireland.
  • Knowledge of Irish construction practices, documentation and approval procedures.
  • Previous involvement in preparing and managing mechanical technical submissions.
  • Experience working with equipment suppliers and specialist subcontractors.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical specifications, drawings and BIM information.
  • Experience creating equipment schedules or procurement packages.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing and project deadlines.
  • Excellent technical writing, coordination and communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Education and Knowledge

  • Degree, diploma or trade-based technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or a related area.
  • Knowledge of DW144, SMACNA and relevant HVAC standards is desirable.
  • Experience delivering data centre, pharmaceutical, semiconductor or other technically complex projects would be advantageous.

Location and Flexibility

The position is linked to the company’s County Mayo office. Office-based, hybrid or remote working may be considered depending on experience.

Candidates working remotely must be resident in Ireland and willing to travel to Mayo, client offices and construction sites as required.

The position may be commutable from Castlebar, Westport, Ballina, Ballinrobe, Claremorris, Swinford, Foxford, Ballyhaunis, Knock, Newport, Charlestown, Galway, Roscommon and Sligo.
