Quantity Surveyor – Castlebar, Co. Mayo

Arcon Recruitment is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join an established and growing construction company based in Castlebar.

The successful candidate will manage the commercial and financial aspects of residential and social housing developments. Experience in housing or social housing projects would be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the commercial and contractual aspects of residential and social housing projects.
  • Prepare project budgets, cost plans and cash-flow forecasts.
  • Complete accurate measurements and take-offs from construction drawings.
  • Prepare and evaluate subcontractor and supplier tender packages.
  • Negotiate and appoint subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Monitor project expenditure against agreed budgets.
  • Prepare interim valuations, payment applications and final accounts.
  • Assess subcontractor valuations and process payment recommendations.
  • Identify, value and manage variations and contractual claims.
  • Work closely with Contracts Managers, Project Managers, Site Managers and engineering teams.
  • Attend project, progress and commercial meetings.
  • Provide regular cost and commercial reports to senior management.
  • Identify commercial risks and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Maintain accurate project records and contractual documentation.
  • Support the continued development of commercial systems and procedures.
  • Assist with tender preparation and the commercial assessment of future projects.

Candidate Requirements

  • Relevant qualification in quantity surveying, construction economics or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the Irish construction sector.
  • Residential housing or social housing project experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement and cost management.
  • Experience preparing valuations, variations, cost reports and final accounts.
  • Strong negotiation and commercial decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent numerical, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and relevant quantity surveying software.
  • Full Irish driving licence.
